About Melissa
Photography Background

Art, in all of its many forms, has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. More specifically, I have been practicing, learning, performing and growing as a photographer for the past ten years. In 2003, I graduated from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in Photography. Over the years, I have been fortunate to have worked with a variety of talented photographers in the tri-state area. My experience includes commercial, product, portrait, wedding and journalistic photography. Some of my personal photographic series have been shown at numerous art galleries throughout the city as well as featured in local magazines and newspapers.
Approach
During each session, I strive to capture the essence of the person/ couple/ family that I am photographing as well as the beauty of their surroundings. My intent is to document relationships and personalities as well as to capture the energy, spirit and fleeting expressions of a moment. Allowing the session to progress organically, I seek to create a fun, honest and relaxed atmosphere.
Whether it is a family portrait session, photographs of an ailing pet, or the documentary of a wedding day; my photography is intimate and personal. I make every effort to build a trusting relationship, evoke emotion and to allow introspection.
Photographs can easily take you back to that time in your life when you felt happy, sad, affectionate, beautiful, in love, joyous, confused, detached or emotional…It is my objective to communicate, express and preserve those treasured moments in your life.
Personal Background
I grew up in Northeast Philadelphia with my parents, 3 siblings and various wonderful pets. Currently, I live with my husband, Carl, in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, which has been proudly growing as a terrific arts and cultural section of the city. Some hobbies that I have are: art in general, visiting galleries, reading, yoga, music, cooking vegetarian dishes (especially with friends), eating, dining out, origami, crafts, wood cutting, painting (although admittedly I’ve been out of touch), movies, biking, swimming, friends and family.
Thanks…
I am thankful every single day for my life, for the people in it and for this opportunity to practice and share my passions as my career. My world has grown immensely over the years through the closeness and relationships that I have formed through my photography and otherwise. I have an amazing support system that includes my family, my friends and my amazing husband! I try not to take life too seriously and, luckily, when I do, I know that I can rely on them to put me right back in my place.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
