Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! I’ve determined that Wesley is either really lucky or really unlucky to have me for his momma when it comes to Halloween. He is only 2 years old now so he doesn’t fully have a say in who/ what he gets to dress up as yet. Well, that’s what I thought anyway….
Originally, I was going to stick with the monkey costume that has been in my family since my mom was 3 years old. My mom, 3 siblings and myself have all worn it. I was excited to get this heirloom and dress Wesley in it. Wes on the other hand was not so excited. Each time that I brought it out he shook his head and said, “no more monkey”. I did manage to get it onto him for a brief photo session but it involved quite a bit of bribery and lots of silly shenanigans made by me. The first portrait posted here is of Wes in his monkey suit. I wanted to include at least one smiling photograph of him since all of the ones where he is dressed in his “real” costume (Edward Scissorhands) are a bit more solemn.
The Edward Scissorhands costume was a breeze to make. He had the basics of the outfit in his closet already. He has the crazy hair (my inspiration for the costume!). I used duct tape and framing wire for his undershirt. His “hands” were made using his favorite winter mittens, some plastic knives and tinfoil. He actually liked wearing the hands and didn’t complain at all while I did his makeup and hair. Apparently, after enduring the monkey costume, anything was better!
