About a month prior to Penelope’s arrival into the world, I talked to Julie & Patrick (while photographing Julie’s sister’s wedding! Blog here:http://www.melissahassey.com/2014/12/battello-wedding-jersey-city-nj/). They knew that they would want some baby portraits done eventually but they had decided against newborn portraits because, let’s face, newborns can be kind of, well…. awkward, alien-like, wrinkly and chapped. As a parent of a once newborn, I can say that, right??? I hope so! Don’t get me wrong, they are amazing beings with an immense power to brighten up the world and, in their way, they are all so precious and adorable. I, especially love photographing babies when they are so new. That said, there are lots of people who decide to hold off on portraits until their babe is a bit chunkier and “smiley-er”. I completely understand that! 🙂
When Julie contacted me to say that Penelope Rose arrived looking good enough to photograph, I was excited! I visited just 2 weeks after she was born and, I must say, this girl is GORGEOUS! Considering her parents, this was expected… but still. Wow. Besides being a beauty, she did amazing for the 2+ hours that I spent with her. She didn’t cry and was completely alert the entire time. During most newborn portrait sessions, I struggle to get the baby awake for just 1 photograph! She’s a natural for sure.
It was fun getting to see Patrick & Julie in the parenting role (and firstborn, Sophie, in the doggy sibling role!). They are already amazing at it!
Congrats again, Julie & Patrick and welcome to the world, Penelope Rose!
